His talent for creative modeling and form preparation quickly became evident, and he developed a strong interest in OP-ART (Optical Art) elements, which would later influence his porcelain designs. In 1970, Frey was appointed head of the design and foundry at A.K. Kaiser, a division of Alboth + Kaiser Catawiki. Under his leadership, he produced a distinctive style of matte bisque porcelain with high-gloss interiors, often featuring modernist, geometric, or relief floral designs.
